The Osun State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a public holiday to enable traditional religion worshippers across the state celebrate the 2026 Isese Festival.
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdul Rasheed Aderibigbe, on behalf of the state government.
According to the government, the decision reflects its commitment to recognising and honouring the cultural heritage, traditions and religious practices of the people of Osun State.
The government said the public holiday would also provide an opportunity to promote cultural awareness, peaceful coexistence and unity among residents of the state.
The statement said Governor Ademola Adeleke congratulated traditional religion worshippers on the celebration and extended his best wishes to them for a joyous and memorable Isese Festival.
Aderibigbe quoted the governor as urging traditional religion worshippers and other residents to celebrate responsibly and peacefully.
The government stressed the need for all participants in the festivities to adhere strictly to existing laws and regulations throughout the celebration.
It also called on residents to respect the rights and beliefs of others while participating in activities marking the festival.
The state government expressed confidence that the celebration would further strengthen the cultural identity and unity of the people of Osun.
The Isese Festival is an important traditional religious and cultural celebration among the Yoruba people, with Osun widely regarded as a major centre of Yoruba cultural heritage.
