Former ZLP Guber Candidate, Adesuyi Offers To Work With Adeleke, Calls For Bipartisan Approach To Osun Development
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) governorship candidate in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, Engr. John Adesuyi, has called for a bipartisan approach to governance, offering to work with the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke on programmes aimed at accelerating development across the state.
Adesuyi, in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, said the conclusion of the governorship election should mark the beginning of a collective effort to build a better Osun State, regardless of political affiliation.
He maintained that the interest of the state and the welfare of its people must now take precedence over political differences, stressing that Osun belonged to all its citizens.
“The election is over, and the task of building a better Osun State must now take precedence over political differences. Osun State belongs to all of us. The success of the state should therefore be a collective responsibility,” he said.
The ZLP candidate appealed to Governor Adeleke to consider working with his party and other stakeholders to implement development-oriented ideas contained in the ZLP manifesto.
“I would like to respectfully appeal to His Excellency, the Governor, to allow us to work together in the interest of the people of Osun State,” Adesuyi said.
He specifically offered to support the implementation of the ZLP’s proposed 50,000 employment opportunities through the agricultural value chain, as well as its proposed infrastructure interventions and other development programmes.
Adesuyi stressed that development programmes should not be viewed through the lens of political ownership, arguing that any initiative capable of improving the lives of Osun residents deserves support irrespective of its political origin.
“These programmes are not about political ownership. They are about the people of Osun State. If there are ideas that can create jobs, empower our young people, improve agriculture, develop infrastructure, and strengthen the economy of our state, we should all be willing to support them irrespective of the political party from which they originated,” he said.
He added that the ZLP was prepared to contribute its ideas, expertise and other forms of support to initiatives that could improve the quality of life of residents and advance the development of the state.
According to him, the conclusion of the election has placed a renewed responsibility on political actors to work for the collective interest of all residents, regardless of their political affiliations.
Adesuyi, who contested the August 15 Osun governorship election, congratulated the winner, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and urged all stakeholders to shift their focus from electoral contestation to governance and development.
He said the new phase should be characterised by cooperation, inclusive governance and practical solutions to the challenges confronting Osun State.
