President Bola Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during a raid on schools in Oyo State, describing the act as barbaric and assuring residents that efforts to rescue the remaining victims are ongoing.

Armed bandits invaded the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday, abducting staff, students and pupils from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

According to reports, security operatives have since launched round-the-clock rescue operations aimed at freeing the victims and arresting those responsible for the attack, including suspected collaborators within the community.

In a statement on Monday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onabuga, President Tinubu expressed sympathy to Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State government and families affected by the incident.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community,” the President said in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu commended the response of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Inspector-General of Police and police commissioners in Oyo and Kwara states, for deploying tactical units and the Intelligence Response Team to secure the release of the abducted victims.

He added that the Inspector-General of Police was personally overseeing a technology-driven operation following directives from the Presidency.

“We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the President said.
