Osun Declares Wednesday Public Holiday For Islamic New Year
The Osun State Government has declared Wednesday, June 17, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Hijira 1448 AH, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Aderibigbe Kayode Rasheed, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo.
According to the statement, the state government extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful across the state as they celebrate the new Islamic calendar year.
The government prayed that the occasion would bring peace, prosperity and unity to the state.
It also urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and avoid actions capable of causing rancour and disharmony during the celebrations.
The statement further encouraged citizens to participate joyfully in festivities associated with the occasion while promoting unity and togetherness among the people.
