Two brothers have been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by an Osun State High Court in Osogbo over alleged sexual offences involving an eight-year-old girl.

The defendants, Abiodun Atoyebi, 29, and Sodiq Atoyebi, 33, appeared before Justice Yinka Aderibigbe on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged rape and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The prosecution alleged that the incidents occurred at different times between 2022 and 2024 in parts of Osogbo, including Temidire Estate and the area around Capital Hotel.

Presenting the case, the state counsel, Labo Popoola, told the court that the defendants allegedly subjected the minor to sexual abuse, with the charges detailing separate allegations against the two brothers.

The prosecution said the alleged acts violated provisions of the Osun State Child Rights Law, the Criminal Code and the state’s Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

Among the allegations read in court were claims that the defendants used force against the child during separate incidents. The allegations remain before the court for determination.

Both brothers pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

Justice Aderibigbe subsequently ordered their remand at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The judge fixed December 1 for the commencement of hearing in the case.

No finding of guilt has been made against either defendant.
