Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ondo state have arrested no fewer than thirty-seven suspected criminals in some parts of the state, during a joint patrol with officers from the 32 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army, Akure.

The operation, which began some days ago, is designed to make the state unsafe for criminals and guarantee people’s safety.

Before now, there was a frosty relationship between operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State and men of the Nigerian Army.

This operation has laid this notion to rest and promoted better synergy between the two security outfits.

The joint patrol is aimed at flushing out criminals from the nooks and crannies of the state.

The two security agencies launched a 24-hour joint patrol throughout the 18 local government areas of the state, to reassure residents of their safety before, during and after the Eid-El-Fitri celebration.

The exercise, which began last Friday, saw security agents combed the council areas under Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s mandate, for a crime-free Ondo State.

The two outfits took the patrol to the state capital, Akure, as they moved round major streets in a show of force.

The operation led to the arrest of 37 suspects in different parts of the state for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, internet fraud, contravention of anti-open grazing laws among others.

The State Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, said the suspects were arrested in conjunction with the military.

He said the corps is also working with other security agencies to make the state unsafe for criminals.

He added, “I want to thank the police, DSS and NSDC for their collaborative efforts to make the state safe.

“Amotekun will continue to work with the military and other agencies to effectively secure the Sunshine State.

“This joint security arrangement is a clear signal that hard times await criminals in the state because the heat from this collaboration will make the state inhabitable for them”.
