Osun First Lady Takes Gender Based Violence Campaign To Judiciary, Seeks Full Support Of Stakeholders In Eradicating Rape Cases In Osun

Stakeholders in the State of Osun have been urged to join hands together and make Osun a shining example to others through eradicating the menance incessant rape cases and other gender based Violence in Osun.

Wife of the Governor State of Osun Mrs Kafayat Oyetola stated this during a courtesy visit to Osun State High court of Justice Osogbo.

Mrs Oyetola who led the members of the state committee on eradication of all forms of gender- based violence including wife of the Deputy Governor Mrs Oyefunke Alabi and wives of top Government officials in the state said the aim of the meeting is to formally seek the support of the judiciary in campaigning against all forms of violence before it becomes a pandemic in the country.

The Chairperson of gender based violence stressed that, there are so many reports on the rising incidence of rapes and sexual offences in the country with the age of victims cut across among which a 70s being raped just as those in their tender ages like 3years are also being defiled.

Mrs Oyetola said the situation is taking a dimension which must be arrested before it become uncontrollable.

Wife of the Governor opined that, the committee have taken the task of carrying out effective campaign for behaviour change that will help to protect women and girls from been rape .

Mrs Oyetola said the rape and all forms of sexual violence which is now becoming major threat to the health women and girl child in the society, therefore solicit support of Judges of High Court of Justice to punish offenders of the barbaric act according to the law.

Speaking during the visit, the Chief Judge of the State ,Justice Adebola Adepele Ojo said it is obvious that when women are not properly protected , the children and family suffers. She added the menance of rape and other form gender violence should not be allowed in our society inorder to protect the human race.

Justice Adepele Ojo said the menace is now rampant in our society due to poverty of the mind , wrong marriage, indecent dressing, influence of hard drugs , alcohol and bad upbringing among other.

Also Speaking at the programme Justice Adedokun Onibokun and Justice Adedoja appreciated the wife of the Governor for the visit despite her tight schedules, the duo added that it is high time for parents to sensitise their children with sound discipline through good home training inorder to make our society a safe place to leave all.
