Following the attacked on some journalists who are on their official duties at the just concluded APC congress in Ondo State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council has condemned the attack in a strong term and called on the security agencies in the state to do everything humanly possible as a matter of urgency to bring perpetrators to book.
It would be recalled that some political thugs armed with dangerous weapons and invaded the BTO hall along Ilesa garage, venue of a parallel APC state congress in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Saturday where some journalists were beaten up by the hoodlums.
In a Press Statement signed by the State Secretary of the Union, Prince Leke Adegbite, expressed displeasure over the failure of security operatives to arrest any of the political thugs that perpetrated the sad attack on the journalists who were doing their lawful duty.
Journalists that were attacked during the congress are, Damisi Ojo of The Nation, Bamigbola Gbolagunte of Daily Sun, Olasunkanmi Elujoba of Adaba 88.9fm and the state NUJ Chairman, James Sowole of This Day newspaper while other journalists at the scene escaped by the whiskers.
Ondo NUJ council however says it is ready to work with relevant agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those behind the attack on the journalists.
The Statement also advised security agencies to up their games in checkmating political violence in Ondo State as the Country prepares for the 2019 general election.
