Bello, who is the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, expressed surprise at the debt profile of the state reportedly declared by Governor Aregbesola during the last interactive programme tagged “Ogbeni Till daybreak”.

Speaking at the “News Point” of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osogbo, on Friday, Bello said N143billion declared by the Governor was surprising.

He explained that the former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola approached the assembly when he was the speaker to borrow N18.3billion which the project for the money was “clearly specified.

He noted that Oyinlola spent only N7billion before Aregbesola approached the assembly with an “unspecified project” and his proposal was treated to avoid been seeing as enemy of his government.

According the ex-legislator, Aregbesola really meant well but he didn’t understand the terrain. He wanted to change everything within two years but I told him that Osun is not like Lagos.

He said the state needs an experienced person like him to face the challenges in the state, saying he has worked closely with three governors including Aregbesola.

Commending Aregbesola for the sealing of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, he maintained that all agencies of the Federal government in the state must pay tax.

He warned the present members of the assembly not to try his impeachment when he become Governor of the state because he didn’t try to impeach Aregbesola when he led 18 members of the PDP in the house.

Speaking on the defection of Senator Iyiola Omisore to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Bello insisted that the fortune of PDP would not be affected with the exit of Omisore.

He explained that his support for Hon. Soji Adagunodo as the party Chairman in the state was the origin of the crisis, saying the former deputy governor wanted the party’s structure “at all cost”.

He vowed to reverse many policies of Governor Aregbesola and retain some, saying the mega school is “a wastage’.

The former Speaker however urged other aspirants not to allow aftermath of the primary to disintegrate the party, assuring that he would face the billionaires’ aspirants with his experience and win the primary election.
