Ijesa APC Leaders Spit Fire Over Diekola’s Attack on Aregbesola
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijesaland have unanimously condemned the recent outburst of a leader of the party, Alhaji Fatai Diekola against Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The APC leaders said it was barbaric, senseless and irritating for Diekola to refer to Aregbesola as a district officer (ajele), when he knows that the governor is a prominent indigene of Ijesaland.
Speaking at a meeting of Ilesa-East APC Elders Caucus meeting, the leader of the party in Ijesaland, Oba Abdulraman Babatunde Muhammed berated Diekola for what he called ‘unguided statement from a supposed leader’.
According to Oba Muhammed who is the Olosunjela of Osunjela, Diekola’s attempt to disparage Aregbesola ahead of the 2018 governorship election would be resisted by the Ijesa people, threatening that the Ijesa APC leaders would not take it lightly with anybody attacking Aregbesola.
Oba Muhammed said if anybody would attack Aregbesola, it should not be Diekola who had benefited immensely from the governor’s kindness, noting that he was nothing but a mere party member before the governor made him ‘something’ in the party.
The traditional maintained that the Ijesa APC members are proud of Aregbesola as son and a governor of the state, saying that they would not tolerate any act of threat to destabilize his government and cause division in the APC.
Addressing the gathering, APC chairman in Ilesa-East, Mr Idowu Korede, cautioned Diekola on what he described as undeserved and irrational provocative statement’ on Aregbesola, stating that the APC chieftain should exercise some level of discipline and decorum.
Korede averred that Diekola has no genuine grouse against Aregbesola, adding that it was disheartening that some APC leaders are already sowing seeds of discord to incite members of the party against one-another and the governor.
The APC chairman urged members of the party to remain peaceful and dismiss any rumour that tends to distabilise the party.
In his speech, former State Treasurer of the APC, Chief Kunle Odeyemi said Diekola’s statement was uncalled for and should be condemned by every reasonable party member, saying that Aregbesola does not deserve such treatment from Diekola.
Odeyemi stated Diekola’s outburst was a deliberate attempt to hit up the polity and destabilize Aregbesola’s administration.
