QBeneficiaries of the IleriOluwa monthly food Support scheme have commended Governor Gboyega Oyetola for deeming it necessary to bring the palliatives to their doorsteps.

The beneficiaries, who are majority traders, showered encomium on the governor who they described as a lover of the masses.

They prayed to God to continue to uphold the Administration for prioritising the welfare and well-being of the citizens.

They equally promise to resprocate the kind gesture of the governor by continually giving him their support and also ensuring he rules the state beyond year 2022.

Mrs Taibatu Balogun, Mrs Idowu Ojebunmi, Mrs Rafatu Ibitoye and Mrs Rebecca Titilayo, all who are petty traders at Oja Oba Market in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun, expressed gratitude to the government for bringing the good gesture down to their domains.

According to Balogun, the initiative is a reflection of the passion and love the administration of Governor Oyetola has for the masses as it had shown clearly that he has the welfare of the people at heart.

Some other beneficiaries in Iragbiji, Ada , and Iree, Mr Akeem Azeez, Mr Abeeden Olorunosebi and Mrs Kehinde Salawu, all said Governor Oyetola has set a pace that other governors of the federation should emulate.

According to Mr Abeeden Olorunosebi, he said he came to celebrate new year in Osun and just felt like getting something in the market when he saw people collecting the rice

He added, “As a matter of fact, I have never seen this kind of government assistance before. I wish other governors can emulate this kind of gesture because it’s a welcome development.”

A student of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Bola Abiona said, “I must commend the government for sustaining this initiative.
This is highly impressive and impactful.

“Though, I never thought I could benefit from this gesture but with this, I have a positive story to tell.

“When we saw people collecting the rice, we thought they won’t give it to us. We thought maybe they have the name of the people that they wanted to give them to.

“We thought maybe they wanted to give it to only politicians, especially those that belong to their party, not until they started giving it to everybody in the line .

“The distribution method is commendable as it is devoid of being political. We pray God to continue to bless the governor for this kind of gesture.” she said

Speaking on the initiative, the State Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Engr. Olalekan Badmus, said they adopted the distribution method to ensure that citizens who are not captured under the World Bank Social Register adopted by the State for the distribution also benefit from the Food Support scheme.

Represented by the Ministry of Regional Integration and Special Duties Coordinating Director, Mr Kunle Falode , Badmus said there was no going back in giving back to the people.

Badmus noted that over 270,000 households had benefited from the scheme since its commencement and assured that no effort would be spared to add value to the initiative, which has been widely accepted by the people.

He said the market approach strategy was adopted as part of effort to further reach out to the masses at the grassroots, saying the present administration was making deliberate efforts to ensure that citizens benefit directly and indirectly from policies and programmes of the government.

“We have gone to see how far we have been able to reach out to the people. We have relied on the World Bank-sponsored Social Register to reach out to the vulnerable citizens, however, in trying to ensure that we have more reach, we have introduced market approach.

“We are targeting all the markets in the State. ” he said

CityMirrorNews reports that among the markets where food items were distributed by the state government on Friday are: Oja Oba market , Ikirun, Oja Oba Market Iragbiji, Poly junction market , Iree.
