Just in : Local Swimmers Rescue Woman, As Car Plunges Into Osun River In Osogbo

Residents around Old Governor office, Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo were on Saturday thrown into panic when a Toyota Camry car plunged into Osun River, along Gbongan/ Ibadan expressway, Osogbo.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Special Duties, Hon Samson Owoyokun, the accident happened at about 11:45.00 a.m.
Owoyokun who was one of the sympathizers at the scene of the accident, told CityMirrorNews that the accident, probably, happened as a result of brake failure.


He said the car skipped off the Gbodofon bridge into the Osun River in Osogbo.
Owoyokun, however, said the the driver of the car was rescued by local swimmers around the place.
He stated that the driver of the car was coming from a nearby mechanic workshop and heading towards Olaiya Junction before she lost control of the vehicle.
“Thank God the driver came out unhurt while no life was also lost in the accident,” he said.
Owoyokun added that the woman was rescued after been trapped for some minutes in her vehicle under the water.
He said the woman had, however, been taken to an undisclosed hospital for intensive treatment.
According to the SSA, immediately after the incident occurred, a call was put across to the fire fighters for her rescue .
Owoyokun advised vehicle owners to properly service and maintain their vehicles before putting them on the highway to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property.
