Police Suspect Suicide As Body Of Man Floats On Osun River

The police have suspected suicide by a missing man whose body was found on a river in Osun State.
One Mr Kehinde Ijebu’s body was found floating on the River Oyile in Ibokun, headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The state’ Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who confirmed the incident, said the police hinged the deceased’s death on suicide because there was no mark of violence on his body when evacuated from the river.
He said the body has been released to his family for burial after insisting that they did not want any autopsy to be carried out.
Ojelabi said, “The incident happened. There were no marks of violence on his body.
“The family approached us that they wanted to bury him, but we suggested autopsy which they objected to.
“They said they wanted to bury him. I can’t say how or where he was buried. Investigation is still ongoing into the matter”.
The deceased had been declared missing by his family since Tuesday, May 6, 2025 until his body was sighted floating on the river .
They had reportedly searched for him in many places in the neighbourhood but to no avail.
One Olawale Famuyatan, who hails from the same community, told reporters that the man had been acting in a depressed manner for weeks before he went missing.
He added that the moment he was discovered missing, some neighbours believed that he had killed himself.
His words ” His whereabouts were not known from Tuesday evening till the following day.
“His relatives and family were worried till the following day. But his neighbours concluded he had disappeared as he used to do, until his dead body was noticed floating on the river on Wednesday by passersby, who notified people in the community”.
Also an anonymous source disclosed that the deceased had been showing symptoms of dementia till his body was found, adding that his body was buried along with his belongings by the river side.
