Let FUOYE Be, Group Tells Protesting Institution Workers
A human rights group, ‘Equal Rights Watch’ in Ondo state, has called on workers of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) not to allow any disgruntled element to distract the smooth returning of the University community.
Recall that some workers of the university last week protested against the ‘illegal’ sacking of the Registrar, Mr. Olatunbosun Odusanya, describing the exercise as the alleged handiwork of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Abayomi Fasina.
The protesting workers, under the aegis of Concerned New Staff, who converged at the gate of the university campus around 7:30am, chanted solidarity songs to express their displeasure.
But, Sola Ade, the Coordinator of the group in a statement made available to journalists in Akure on Monday said since the assumption of Prof Fasina as the VC of the university, normalcy and serenity are now prevailing on the campus.
Ade, who frowned at the way and manner some people would be used to disorganize the affairs of the university community based on suspension of registrar, however, advised the protesting workers to go to court if there is any complaint against Prof Fasina rather than engaging in rule of violence which has no root in Nigeria constitution.
The statement reads, “our attention has been drawn to the sponsored protest staged last week by some people who alleged that the present VC of the institution, Prof Abayomi Fasina is not fit and proper to occupy the office.
“We must inform the general public that Prof Fasina has been accepted by the students and workers of the institution as their messiah.
“The host communities, Oye and Ikole-Ekiti equally welcome Prof Fasina as they supported him and rejoiced over his appointment.
“We honestly advise the VC to settle and serve the university diligently as he has been noted or acknowledged for his maximum efficiency, he should not let any disgruntled element distract him in his office.”
