Afe Babalola Dares Presidency, Goes Ahead With Plan To Organise National Confab Despite FG Warning
Barely a few days after the Presidency raised alarm about an alleged plot by religious and political forces in the country to carry out undemocratic practices and activities aimed at destabilizing President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Aare Afe Babalola, the owner of the Afe Babalola University located in Ado Ekiti has revealed that plans are being put in place to organize a national conference to be sponsored by him.
Recalls that a few days ago, the Presidency through the Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina had revealed that it received reports of a plot by religious and political forces to convene a national conference with many dignitaries from different parts of the country without the approval of the government.
The Presidency further revealed that in the conference, the forces have already decided to pass a vote of no confidence on the president, thereby destabilizing his government. It ended by warning the leaders not to do anything that goes against the democratic norms of the country, as the presidency and the DSS would not fold their arms and watch these elements lead the country to a state of anarchy and destabilization.
However, Aare Afe Babalola seems to have ignored the warnings of the Presidency by revealing plans to organize a national conference that would be sponsored by him.
The conference titled “Summit of Hope” according to Afe Babalola is organized so that a solution to the many problems that the country is currently facing would be discussed.
Babalola stated that he has already donated the sum of N50m for the conference and that it is scheduled to hold very soon in the halls of the Afe Babalola University.
He also revealed that the dignitaries for the conference would include Past Presidents of the country, notable traditional rulers and other eminent Nigerians who would come together to suggest solutions to some of the issues plaguing the country.
Revealing why he chose the Afe Babalola University as the venue for the conference, Babalola stated that the University has efficient facilities like a certified and functioning helipad and a standard multi-system hospital equipped with about 400 beds.
Babalola further stated that eminent personalities like the Sultan of Sokoto, Alaafin of Oyo, Ooni of Ife, Obi of Onitsha, Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Theophilus Danjuma, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Professor Wole Soyinka would be in attendance at the summit.
