By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
The Management of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, Ondo State, on Friday, said it would continue give more attention to improving personnel and infrastructure of the institution to produce quality graduates.
The state-owned polytechnic, in a statement made available to journalists in Akure through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Ojo, expressed the hope that effective and efficient transformation being witnessing at the school would go a long way in improving the economy, especially with a focus on science and technology.
According to Ojo, its became necessary to open the eyes of the staffs and the public to the landmark and unique contributions and achievements of the institution, through the magnanimity of the current management of the school and the State government under the leadership of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
While describing the polytechnic as a centre of excellence, the management noted that it would continue achieving giant strikes projects for the institution through the dreams of the visitors of the school.
The statement reads, “Let me use this opportunity to inform our colleagues in the services of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, all our employees, retirees, and pensioners that we are committed as management to urgent attend to pay all the outstanding salaries, to ending the injustice of extreme poverty, to upholding the inherent dignity of every citizens of Ondo state.
“The current government of Ondo State inherited a failed state, there were no infrastructures, institutions and government sponsored programs, to encourage and nurture the creation of wealth, and the building of the middle class. This has resulted in the creation and perpetuation of a consumptive society where there’s no encouragement and support of manufacturing and mass productions of goods and services.
“Any society that only consumes what others have produced, without manufacturing its own goods and services will never be economical strong nor politically relevant. Today, the difference is clear with the emergence of Aketi.
“The 9 months outstanding salaries owed the Polytechnic has been reduced to 4 months, Ondo state is gradually becoming a major agricultural and tourism destination in Africa. The economy is open for private enterprise to thrive, Akeredolu’s led government has cracked the nut and the exploration and production of our bitumen in Ondo State is on course.
“When we came into office, we took some important steps in line with our mandate and to key into the transformation agenda of Mr Governor to retool, reconstruct and reposition Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo, and make it a leading research institute committed to improving the human condition through advanced science and technology.
“The institution is ranked as one of the best 9 in Nigeria in 2020, Internet penetration on campus, establishment of Huawei ICT academy, restoration of damaged ICT Centre, renovation of water bottling/bread factory and construction of perimeter fence, reduction of outstanding salaries from 9 months to 4 months, complete E-Test Centre building, FSSCS Building, FAT Building, Rectory Building, Registry Building, Bursary Building, RUGIPO radio is on air, the first of its kind in Owo kingdom.”
