Osun Muslim Community Against Formation Of Operation Amotekun, Backs Federal Govt’s Position
The Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC) Monday declared that the recently established South-west joint security outfit, Operation Amotekun contravened the spirit of Nigeria constitution, confrontational and sectional.
OSMC in a communique made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, jointly signed by its President, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi and Secretary, Alhaji Hashim Olapade, frowned at the circumstances surrounding the establishment of Amotekun, saying it was “one sided security outfit” and that it shall not be disposed to support any organization on tribal sentiments.”
In the communique issued at the end of its delegates meeting held at its Secretariat Surulere area of Osogbo on Sunday, OSMC declared that the “composition and establishment is unacceptable.”
“The composition and establishment of Amotekun in the South-west of Nigeria is unacceptable by the OSMC as highlighted in its nomenclature.
Osun state Muslim Community is in full support of the existing security outfit for protection of life and property of Nigeria provided by the Nigeria constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, it said.
According to OSMC, “the Amotekun charter titled Amotekun Golden Rule contravene the spirit of Nigeria constitution, confrontational and sectional,” adding, “OSMC shall not be disposed to support any organization on tribal sentiments.
“The establishment of Operation Amotekun is shrouded in secrecy and hidden agenda inimical to security of lives and properties and the progress of the nation, therefore, it should be countenanced. We unequivocally condemn issuance of certificate of birth, letters of recommendation from the Church deliberately silent about other religions.”
Emphasizing that “OSMC can never support one sided security outfit which may later on prove insecure for the general populace”, the Muslim body demanded full details of the comoosition of Amotekun.
“OSMC hereby awaits full details of the composition of the security outfit which should be fully endorsed by all the state Houses of Assembly in the South West.”
