100 Days in Office: Plateau Assembly Gives Scorecard

The Plateau State House of Assembly today, Wednesday, gave the scorecard of the 9th Assembly since its inception about 100 days ago.

While addressing the media at the 9th Assembly Media Centre within the Aseembly premises, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Communication, Hon Dasun Peter Philip noted that it has been an eventful House since its inauguration on June 10, 2019.

He added that the principal officers of the Assembly emergence were historic because they emerged without any opposition saying that even opposition parties nominated ruling party members for offices.

While given the scorecard of the 9th Assembly, he said that Six Bills were presented, Five Matters of Urgent Public Importance and 12 motions raised.

Be said: “Six Bills were presented on the Floor, one passed, two at Committee stage and three are at First Reading.

“Five matters of Urgent Public Importance bordering on an emergency issues affecting the people of Plateau were raised.

“Twelve Motions on several issues that touched on the likelihood of the people of Plateau State were raised. He said.

He stressed that the Urgent Public Importance matters raised bordered on insecurity and incessant attacks in Bokkos, Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Kanke; natural disasters including collapses building in Jos North, flood disasters in Shendam, Pankshin, Bassa, Kanam and Bokkos; Illegal motor parks within Jos-Bukuru metropolis and environs and the gruesome murder of the Hakimin Kadunu in Langai District of Pyam Chiefdom in Mangu LGA.

He stated that On June 10, 2019, motion on the proper constitution of the Ninth Aasembly was moved.

He said other motions moved was a call on the state government to rehabilitate the power supply in Pankshin dam; a call on the state government to facilitate the process of the interview results for employment of Medical Doctors; a call on the state governmnet to expedite action by putting in place modalities to meet up with the scheduled date for the introduction of Meningococcal A (Men A) Conjungate Vaccine Routine Immunization in Nigeria and a call on the state government to renovate and equip the Pankshin Youth Centre among others.

He intimated that the ad-hoc Commttees have been visiting affected sites and communities to assess and comisserate with them.

He noted that three Ad-hoc committees were constituted to work on the resolutions reached pertaining to the various issues raised.

He concluded by adding that, ” the screening and confirmation of Commssioner Nomnees comes as the icing cake as it is one of the last activities that we are undertaking.”

Responding to various questions, Philip said that the ad-hoc committee raised would be following up with the executives on various resolutions raised by the Assembly.

Members of the committee are; Honourables Dasun Peter Philip, Esther Dusu, Livinus J. Kwapfuan, and Eric Bakogol.

Others are Honourables Abubakar Balo, Yakubu Sanda, and Zingtim Sohchang.
