Don’t Give Up on PDP, DNPS Urges Nigerians
By Ibraheem Alli
A Deputy National Publicity Secretary aspirant in the last botched national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Port Harcourt, Mr Funmiso Babarinde has appealed to Nigerians not to give up on the party, saying that it still remained the best alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Babarinde said that the current challenges facing the party would make it stronger, united and make it a credible opposition to fight the course of good governance for Nigerians and give them best option as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election.
He stated this on Sunday in a press statement he issued to appreciate Nigerians, his party members and friends for the massive support given to him in his quest for the PDP national office, which he said was still much alive.
According to Babarinde, the current challenges of the PDP were not unexpected of a largest political party in Africa in the process of rebuilding and restructuring as an opposition party.
The Osun State born politician maintained that PDP remained the only political party with functioning internal democracy that provide opportunity for all the party members to showcase their political skills and ambition.
He said: “PDP as it stands today, is still the only democratic party that has a near perfect internal democracy to put in place it’s structure devoid of generally known imposition. That has given some of us the opportunity to aspire to offices of our choice.
“The PDP’s reign for 16 years has successively taken democracy to a greater height and took governance to the people at grassroot. I hereby appealed once again to tarry a bit and pray for PDP to survive this family issue. The challenges are to give Nigerians the needed credible opposition and sustainable alternatives.
“We are looking forward to a new peace moves by our leaders and warring groups so as to work together and put in place an all inclusive National Convention to usher in substantive National Working Committee for our great party.”
