Group Felicitates With Nigerians On Democracy Day, Urges Buhari To End Senseless Killings

Christian Foundation for Social Justice and Equity has felicitated with Nigerians on the Democracy Day celebration noting that the worst form of democracy is better than military rule.

The group stated this in a press release signed by its Executive Chairman, Joseph Sangosanya and made available to CityMirrorNews in Jos today.

He said that, “Nigerian democracy is developing and the polity is getting robust compared to what we had in 1999 when we transited from military rule to civilian rule”.

The Civil Society Organisation however noted that “Nigerians have not enjoyed dividends of democracy because there has not been significant improvement in the lives of common Nigerians”.

“We have had 19 years uninterrupted democracy, the longest in our national life but Nigerians have become poorer during the same period.

“This is largely so because of inefficient and ineffective leaders who have managed our resources since the transition”. The group stated.

Sangosanya advised governments at every level to “prioritise human capital and infrastructural development as major catalyst for improving our democracy” while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct free, fair, credible and acceptable election in 2019 saying that “our election in 2019 must be better than what we had in 2015”.

He urged INEC on early preparation for the elections and engaging credible organisations on massive sensitisation of the public on electoral processes.

The Foundation called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency stop the senseless killings in the country. “It is high time for President Buhari to act as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by immediately deploy all arsenal of the nation to halt the senseless killings. Our humanity must be restored”.

Sangosanya also urged the President to do more in the area of economy so as to bridge the wide gap between the “the rich and the poor” as Nigerians are getting poorer under his watch.
