Court Remands 2 Suspected Cultists For Shooting Resident To Death In Osun

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo the capital State of Osun, on Monday ordered the remand of two suspected cultists in prison custody for allegedly shooting a resident to death.

The duo Ridwan Akande, 22, and Oluwagbotemi Oni, 23 were docked before Magistrate Mrs M. A Awodele on three-count charge bothering on murder, unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to secret cult.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Awodele, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody due to the magnitude of the offence committed.

Briefing the court the Prosecutor, Insp. Joshua Oladoye, said the duo and others at large committed the offence on Aug. 5, 2017 and April 7 at about 3.30 pm and 6:30 p.m., at old Garage and Oke – Onitea area in Osogbo.

Oladoye said the defendants conspired and killed one Bintu Anifowose, by shooting her with a gun for unknown reasons.

Inspector Joshua explained that the duo who happened to be a members of Aiye cult confraternity were apprehended by members of Federal special anti robbery square (F-SARS) and were caught with two locally made single barrel guns, seven live cartridges and two expended live cartridges which they could not give satisfactory account of.

The offence according to the Prosecutor was correct to and punishable under Sections 324, 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap34 Vol. 11 , Laws of Osun, 2003 while that of unlawful possession of firearms arams and secret cult contravene Section 27(1)(b)(1) of the Firearms Act Cap f28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria and Section 64(a)(b) punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2003.

The plea of the accused persons were not taken due to the gravity of the offence

The magistrate Mrs M. A Awodele ruled that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of Director for public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice

She thereafter adjourned the case till July6 for mentioned.
