State, Wards Congresses In Kebbi: Over 2,965 Candidates Pick PDP Forms

Malam Yusuf Dingyadi, the Secretary, Caretaker’s Committee, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kebbi, disclosed on Saturday that over 2,965 candidates had purchased nomination forms ahead of State and wards Congress in the state.

Dingyadi made this disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the party’s secretariat in Birinin Kebbi.

”Over 2,965 candidates vying for different political positions ahead of wards and state congress of the PDP, Kebbi State had purchased their nomination forms from the party’s Caretaker Committee,” he said.

He said that the wards and state congresses were slated to take place on October 28 and November 1 respectively.

He further explained that about 17 political positions would be contested for in 995 wards across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi based on the guidelines released by the Caretaker Committee of the party.

The Sectary disclosed that some positions in many council areas would be by consensus, while others would be done through elections.

“So far, we have over 2,965 candidates who had purchased their nomination forms in all positions from wards to local and state levels.

“The election is going to be by queue behind your candidates and be counted.

“So far, there is consensus in some local government areas and wards, but in few areas, we are going into elections”, he said.

He stressed that all preparations toward peaceful and violence free elections have been made by the party.

He disclosed that the party had selected 21 supervisors to monitor the party’s congresses with election and returning officers in each wards to ensure free and fair elections.

Dingyadi assured members that the party would provide level playing ground for all contestants in the state.

The secretary pointed out that only card carrying members of PDP would be allowed to vote and be voted.

He added that the security agencies in the state, especially the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been providing security for the party since they started their preparation
