Olu Babalola, Ibadan
A Lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency, Prince Albert Abiodun Adeogun has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its time table for the next year’s gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun respectively just as he urged the leadership of the People Democratic party (PDP), to sustain its reconciliation exercise.
Adeogun feelings were contained in a press statement sent to the media houses at the week end.
Adeogun who is also a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charged INEC to maintain its independence Propped
,”The commission has started displaying its independence as was shown during the last senatorial election in Osun state. Despite puerile efforts made by the losers to compromise the officers, the most popular candidate emerged the winner” He noted.
The parliamentarian urged the electorate to shine their eyes next year and resist the temptation of casting their votes for those who would continue to prolong their sufferings which included non payment of their salaries, maltreatment of pensioners, apathy to education with embarrassing results in public examination among other frustrations.
“The people of the state have never had it so bad. Students of LAUTECH have been out of their school for close to 10 months for no fault of theirs but poor attitude of the owner governors to education. And this was so because their children and wards are not there” he observed.
He called on political leaders in PDP to sink their differences and produce an acceptable governorship candidate through its primaries stressing “the PDP this time will not compromise on internal democracy .The era of imposition of candidates should no longer be allowed in PDP. APC should no longer be allowed to plunder the states meagre resources. But the destiny of the masses is in their hands in 2018.
He was full of praises for Senator Ahmed Makarfi as well as the leadership of the party for its meeting in Lagos during the weekend where Chief Olabode George announced his Chairmanship aspiration adding that good days were back to the party.
Adeogun proposed to the PDP to allow Ife zone to produce the Governorship candidate for 2018 but not in violation of the party’s constitution
He said that he was confident that all those who had defected from the party would come back in view of the progress recorded in the reconciliation exercise adding ” the leadership of APC is now jittery and in a dilemma.”
He called on all aspiring for governorship contest in both Osun and Ekiti States next year to allow the interest of the party to supersede personal ambition.
