Stop Playing Politics With State Finances, APDA Warns Akeredolu, Mimiko
By Niyi Olutunde, Akure
More reactions have continued to trail the discrepancies in the account of Former Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and the incumbent, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the state of finances of Ondo State account.
While speaking with Journalists in Akure, the Interim Secretary of Advance Peoples’ Democratic Alliance (APDA ) in Ondo state, Mrs Titilayo Ashaolu urged the duo of Mimiko and Akeredolu to stop playing politics with the finances of the state, describing it as unnecessary.
She noted that the people deserved to know the true position of the finances of the state, advising Governor Akeredolu to brace-up for real business of governance and stop complaining.
Her words, “Let both of them stop taking the citizenry of this state for granted with their inconsistent pronouncements all these days. What the citizen want is real governance that will stand in defence of democracy.
“H.E Akeredolu should sit down with his team and bring up ideas and Programmes that will bring about a better life for the people, rather than grandstanding in the public domain with complains.
“Complaining and re-presenting predecessors as bane of inability to deliver is preposterous. The people voted APC in Ondo State for a better performance than the previous government. They didn’t vote for a wailing Government to enter into Alagbaka Goverment House,” the APDA Chieftain said there’s high level hunger, hopelessness and anger in this land presently, leading to despondency.”
In his own reaction, a resident, Biyi Olatunde said the former Governor, Mimiko was not been truthful by saying he left whopping sum of N20 billion in the state coffers.
He noted that the governor could not have left that huge amount and would not pay months of Salaries arrears of workers in the state.
He said, “How come that Dr Mimiko is saying he left that amount in the state and six months salaries are left unpaid. I can’t agree with that figure and the former Governor might not be saying the truth.”
Also on her part, Mrs Bimbo Adekunle, a Public Affairs Analyst, accused Akeredolu for waiting over six months before declaring the state of finances of the state.
Mrs Adekunle urged the present government in the state to be serious with the issue of governance, saying the people are beginning to have different feelings as regards the government.
“All I know is someone is not telling us the truth in this situation. Why will the Governor waited so long before saying that, considering the importance of that issue in the state. Something must have been wrong somewhere”, she said.
It would be recalled that Governor Akeredolu in his speech while inaugurating his commissioners last week said his government met a staggering debt of #220Billion.
Akeredolu during the inauguration blamed the Mimiko’s administration for its alleged lack of focus, explained that the debts incurred by the administration include money borrowed from both within and outside the country, including those used for uncompleted projects executed by his (Mimiko) administration.
He also alleged the administration of Mimiko for embarking on frivolous projects which had no direct impacts on the lives of the people of the state.
But in a swift reaction to Akeredolu’s claims, Mimiko, in a statement by the former Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade declared that his government did not leave behind a debt of N220 billion.
He also contradicted the governor’s claimed that he left N9,956 billion in the state’s coffer even as he insisted that he left N20 billion.
