Amotekun Operative Beheaded in Bid to Secure Brother’s Release in Oyo

An operative of the Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun, Robert Olorode, has reportedly been killed while attempting to deliver a ransom to secure the release of his younger brother abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Olorode was reportedly beheaded on Saturday, October 24, while delivering the ₦500,000 ransom demanded for the release of his brother, Elijah Okeleye, a farmer.

According to community sources, Okeleye was abducted on Wednesday, October 21, by armed men while returning from his farm in the Saaji-daada axis of Kajola.

The kidnappers were said to have initially demanded ₦15 million from the victim’s family before negotiations reportedly reduced the ransom to ₦500,000.

In an attempt to secure his brother’s freedom, Olorode allegedly volunteered to take the money to the kidnappers at their designated meeting point. However, the mission reportedly ended in tragedy, as he was overpowered and killed by the abductors.

The incident has reportedly thrown the family and residents of the community into mourning, amid growing concerns over the security of rural settlements in the area.

The Bajigan of Ilaji-Oke, Oba Jeremiah Oyeboade Oladosu, confirmed the incident when contacted by journalists.

The traditional ruler clarified that although Olorode was an operative of the Amotekun security corps, he undertook the ransom delivery as a private individual in an effort to secure his brother’s release, rather than in an official capacity.

Meanwhile, local security personnel and police operatives were reportedly intensifying efforts to track down those responsible for the killing.

The incident has renewed concerns about kidnapping and the safety of residents in farming communities, where criminal attacks have continued to pose challenges to local security.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the police detailing the circumstances of the incident or confirming any arrests.
