Kwara NSCDC Arrests Two Over Alleged Transformer Cable Vandalism
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspects over the alleged vandalisation of transformer cables and other criminal activities in the Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the command.
The NSCDC spokesman in Kwara State, ASCI Ayoola Michael Shola, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by personnel of the command.
According to him, the operatives conducted a search during the operation and recovered vandalised transformer cables, cable outer and inner peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves, among other items.
The spokesman said preliminary investigation had linked the suspects to the alleged vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community.
He, however, added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the alleged criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure across the state.
Mohammed said the command would not allow Kwara State to become a haven for vandals, criminals or economic saboteurs.
He assured residents that the NSCDC would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to identify, arrest and investigate individuals suspected of engaging in activities capable of threatening public safety and critical infrastructure.
The commandant also warned those involved in the vandalisation of public infrastructure to desist from the act, stressing that the NSCDC remained committed to protecting government assets and safeguarding the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
He urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in preventing vandalism and other criminal activities.
The NSCDC said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation and establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
