INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Online Voter Registration Website
…Says registration exercise closed July 26
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the commission has announced a new date for nationwide online voter registration.
The commission, in a public notice, said the fake website was circulating online with claims that the registration exercise had been rescheduled to run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
INEC categorically denied the claim, stressing that the website, https://tinyurl.com/inecnigeria-cvr-org, was fake and had no affiliation with the electoral body.
The commission cautioned members of the public against clicking on the link or submitting personal information through the website, warning that doing so could expose their sensitive data to theft, harvesting or misuse.
It clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, describing any information suggesting that a new online registration exercise was ongoing through the fraudulent website as false.
INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all information relating to voter registration and other electoral activities through its official communication channels.
The commission also advised the public to disregard the website and avoid sharing unverified information capable of misleading prospective voters.
For enquiries and verification, INEC provided its call centre number, 0700-2255-4632, and short code 4632. Members of the public can also contact the commission on 090844444333 and 09050858629 or send an email to iccc@inec.gov.ng.
The commission further directed Nigerians to its official website, www.inecnigeria.org, and news portal, www.inecnews.com, for authentic electoral information.
INEC reiterated the importance of relying on verified announcements from the commission to avoid falling victim to online fraud and misinformation.
