NUJ Lagos To Celebrate Journalists At 2026 Press Week
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has announced plans to celebrate journalists and promote professional development during its 2026 Press Week scheduled for September 28 to October 4.
The week-long programme will feature a series of activities, including a Health and Awareness Walk, public lecture, Chapel Rendezvous, Juma’at Service, Gala and Awards Night, as well as a Thanksgiving Service.
A major highlight of the programme will be a public lecture titled, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
The lecture is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, September 30, at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Ikeja, Lagos, by 10:00 a.m.
The guest speaker is the former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside.
The organisers said the lecture would provide an opportunity for journalists, media professionals and other stakeholders to examine the relationship between politics, port development, public interest and economic growth.
Speaking on the significance of the Press Week, the NUJ Lagos State Council Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, described the annual event as a platform for journalists to interact, strengthen professional relationships and celebrate the journalism profession.
Ajayi urged journalists across Lagos State to participate actively in the programme, stressing that the activities would promote unity, networking, knowledge-sharing and responsible journalism.
He said the council remained committed to initiatives that would enhance professionalism and create opportunities for journalists to engage meaningfully with critical issues affecting society.
The 2026 Press Week is expected to bring together journalists, media executives, government representatives, industry stakeholders and other members of the public for a week of professional, social and community-oriented activities.
