Osun Govt Reaffirms Alowonle As Recognised NURTW Chairman, Denies Dissolution Of Union Leadership

The Osun State Government has reaffirmed that Comrade Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle and his executives at both the state and local government levels remain the duly recognised leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.

The government clarified that Governor Ademola Adeleke did not, at any time, dissolve the union’s leadership or remove any duly appointed executive members.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government explained that Alowonle and his executives were appointed by the national leadership of the NURTW under the presidency of Comrade Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), in line with the union’s constitution, regulations, and guidelines.

According to the statement, there is no vacuum in the leadership of the NURTW in Osun State.

The government said its attention had been drawn to what it described as the deliberate misinterpretation and misrepresentation of the outcome of the State Security Council meeting held on Thursday, during which the government suspended all NURTW activities in motor parks across the state due to security concerns arising from the activities of some hoodlums allegedly led by Kazeen Oyewale, popularly known as “Asiri Eniba.”

It noted that the same group had falsely interpreted the Security Council’s directive to mean that Governor Adeleke had dissolved the Alowonle-led executive, thereby creating a vacuum for the inauguration of a purported caretaker committee allegedly headed by Asiri Eniba.

The government described the claim as false and misleading, stressing that the directive only suspended the operational activities of the NURTW in motor parks pending the restoration of peace and order.

“The State Government wishes to make it abundantly clear that at no time did it dissolve the executives of the NURTW at any level. The directive of the Security Council was solely to suspend the activities of the union in all motor parks until normalcy is restored,” the statement said.

It further recalled that Governor Adeleke had made it clear that the motor parks themselves were not shut down and should remain open for lawful activities.

The government reiterated that the Alowonle-led executive remains the only leadership recognised by both the national leadership of the NURTW and the Osun State Government.

Consequently, Governor Adeleke directed all security agencies in the state to immediately remove Asiri Eniba and members of his group from all motor parks, insisting that they have no legal authority to operate or assume leadership of the union.

The government assured residents that once peace and security are fully restored in the motor parks, the NURTW under the leadership of Comrade Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle would resume its normal operations across the state without any hindrance.
