2027: Osun Senator, Fadeyi Dumps APC, Returns To PDP

Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing alleged breach of agreements, lack of internal democracy, and loss of confidence in the party’s leadership in Osun State.

Fadeyi confirmed his defection during a telephone interview on Thursday, declaring that he had already notified the Senate of his decision and had secured the PDP ticket to contest the 2027 senatorial election for Osun Central.

“I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate,” the lawmaker said.

“I can also confirm to you that I am the candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 Senate election.”

Fadeyi was among five National Assembly members who defected from the PDP to the APC in July 2025. However, he recently lost the APC senatorial ticket for the 2027 general election to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adekunle Adegoke.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Senate, the senator said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home, which falls within Osun Central Senatorial District.

According to him, he had received assurances that he would emerge as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 Senate election, adding that the agreement was allegedly conveyed by President Tinubu to party leaders in the state.

Fadeyi lamented that the understanding was not honoured, accusing the Osun APC leadership of abandoning the agreed consensus arrangement and failing to conduct transparent and credible primary elections.

“I believed that those understandings would be honoured and that the party would uphold the principles of fairness, equity, mutual respect and internal democracy,” he stated.

The senator further alleged that no genuine consensus process was conducted and that the candidate selection process undermined trust within the party.

“Recent developments from the leadership of the APC in Osun State have created serious trust issues within the party and made my continued membership of the party untenable,” he said.

He also questioned the party’s decision to grant automatic return tickets to the other lawmakers who defected alongside him while denying him the opportunity to contest under the APC platform.

Despite his exit, Fadeyi insisted that his decision was not directed against President Tinubu, maintaining that he still respected the President’s leadership.

According to him, his defection was driven by the need to uphold democratic principles, mutual trust, and respect for political agreements.
