Alaafin Calls For Stronger Intelligence System After Oyo Attack, Donates Support Fund
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has called on the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering and adopt native intelligence mechanisms in addressing insecurity across the country.
The monarch made the call following the recent terrorist attacks and abduction of pupils in parts of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Speaking through his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, Oba Owoade said the government must move beyond reactive responses and invest in proactive intelligence systems capable of identifying threats before attacks occur.
He also stressed the need to deploy modern technology for tracking and identifying criminal suspects while strengthening protection around schools and vulnerable communities.
Oba Owoade described the growing rate of killings, kidnappings and destruction by terrorists as deeply alarming, noting that many Nigerians were becoming increasingly fearful about the country’s security situation.
According to him, the level of sophistication displayed by criminal groups suggests the involvement of hidden collaborators supplying support and weapons.
Based on verified reports, armed bandits reportedly invaded Esinele School last Friday, killing two persons, burning a vehicle and abducting 42 pupils alongside a teacher into the Old Oyo National Park forest.
The monarch also donated funds to support ongoing rescue operations, while security operatives and local vigilante groups have been deployed to the affected communities and surrounding forests.
