Osun East Councilors Endorse Ogungbangbe As Consensus Candidate For APC Senatorial Primary
The Forum of Osun East Councilors has unanimously endorsed Prince Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osun East Senatorial District ahead of the party’s primary.
The endorsement followed a strategic meeting between Ogungbangbe, Director General of the Osun East AMBO Campaign Organization, and members of the councilors’ forum in Osogbo. In a separate engagement, the Osun East Ward Chairmen Forum also met with the aspirant to discuss party unity, grassroots mobilization, and preparations for the August 15 governorship election.
Addressing the councilors, Ogungbangbe described them as the “Directors General” of their wards and stressed their central role in delivering victory at the grassroots level.
“The councilors are the Directors General of their wards. If everyone wins their ward, then the election will be over before it starts,” he said.
He urged party stakeholders to remain united following the recent court victory and to approach the election with focus and determination.
“Osun East is the senatorial district that will determine who wins on August 15. We must work to secure at least 70 percent of the votes here so we can cover any shortfall in other districts,” Ogungbangbe said.
He assured councilors and ward chairmen that they would form the backbone of the campaign structure as the election approaches, citing their grassroots relevance and political experience.
“Our goal is to strengthen the APC and test our structure for the progress of the party,” he added.
The motion to endorse Ogungbangbe was moved by Hon. Wale Odedeyi of Edun-Abon II, Ife North, and seconded by Hon. Olasore Oluwadamilare of Ward II, Ilesa East.
At the meeting with ward chairmen, Ogungbangbe described them as the foundation of the party structure.
“Ward chairmen are the mothers that birth both aspirants and candidates. They are critical to this journey,” he said.
Speaking after the meeting, Hon. Wale Odedeyi said long-standing party members must be recognized in the selection process.
“Those who have remained committed to the party through difficult times should not be sidelined. We are calling on party leaders to consider Dr. Thomas Ogungbangbe for the Senate. He has the experience, knowledge, and capacity to represent Osun East effectively,” he said.
Notable leaders at the meeting included APC Apex Leader Chief Emilola Ogunsanya, Hon. Olufemi Akosile, Hon. Obisesan Olasunkanmi, Hon. Ojeleye Emmanuel, Chairman of All Ward Chairmen, Osun East, and Hon. Fafiyemi Ismael, Chairman of All Councilors, Osun State.
