Our Academic programmes in Faculty of Education, Agriculture tuition free --UNIILESA Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilesa, Ilesa, Osun State, Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, on Wednesday, made disclosed that the University is distinguished by certain strategic initiatives by making academic programmes in the Faculties of Education and Agriculture are tuition-free.

Professor Asaolu who stated this at a press conference to herald the 3rd year anniversary in office, with the themed “Three years of purposeful leadership, growth and institutional transformation” stressed that students offering courses in the Faculties of Education and Agriculture are exempted from paying tuition fee!

He noted that the University Senate, with the backing of the Governing Council and the State Government had graciously approved this policy to stimulate enrolment and address critical national manpower gaps.

According to him “We cannot afford to leave the teaching profession in the
hands of non-professionals and quacks. equally, agriculture is central to economic prosperity and food
security.”

The Vice– Chancellor emphasized that the institution considered it expedient that these two strategic sectors must not be allowed to lag behind in human capital development.

He equally remarked that wards and children of staff of the University enjoy 50% discount on tuition fees as part of
the University’s robust staff welfare package and to ensure that students offering programmes in Agriculture have hands-on practical and field experience, the University established Integrated
Teaching and Research Farm.

He noted that the Farm currently
houses a cattle ranch, fish ponds, poultry, turkey and rabbit units, crop demonstration plots, and agro-processing facilities.

The Vice– Chancellor further emphasized that efforts are underway to expand the scope and commercial viability of the Farm, positioning it as both a training and research ground for students and academic staff.

While Speaking on the challenges in the University, Professor,Asaolu narrated Inadequate On-Campus Students accommodation, the current hostel capacity serves less than 30% of our student population, Unreliable Public Power Supply, the University remains heavily dependent on diesel generators and need for More Lecture Halls and Other Critical Infrastructures.

He however noted that the pressing need of the University is for additional lecture theatres,laboratories, and office complexes to accommodate our expanding programmes and staff complement.
