2027: Presidency Accuses ADC Of Raising False Alarm
The Presidency has accused opposition figures, particularly leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of raising unfounded concerns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Presidential spokesperson, Sunday Dare, made the remarks while responding to comments by former lawmaker Rt. Hon. Nnenna Ukeje during a recent press conference organised by the ADC National Legislators Coalition, where President Bola Tinubu’s democratic credentials were questioned.
According to Dare, opposition groups have begun attacking the administration long before the election season has officially started.
“Even before the official commencement of the election season and before the polls open, the opposition, a hurriedly stitched together contraption in search of a launch pad, is already crying foul,” he said.
He alleged that the opposition’s strategy was to discredit the President, cast doubt on the electoral process, and make unsubstantiated allegations in an attempt to gain sympathy from the international community.
Dare described the ADC press conference as heavy on theatrics but lacking substance, restraint, and constitutional respect.
“What Nigerians witnessed was not a principled defence of democracy, but a calculated distraction from internal disarray within a political party struggling to maintain coherence,” he stated.
The presidential aide also noted what he described as contradictions in the ADC’s position, pointing out that the same press conference acknowledged Tinubu’s historical role in opposition politics and democratic development before later portraying him as a threat to democracy.
“They admitted President Tinubu’s role in strengthening opposition politics, expanding democratic space, and resisting authoritarianism. Yet, they turned around to accuse the same man of undermining democracy without evidence,” Dare said.
