UNIOSUN Announces Temporary Closure Of Ifetedo Campus Following Student’s Demise
The Management of Osun State University has announced the indefinite closure of its College of Law, Ifetedo Campus, following the tragic death of a 400-level student of Criminology and Security Studies, Miss Grace Osunlakin.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the institution described the incident as deeply painful and expressed profound sadness over the loss of the student, who reportedly passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The University Management extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the student community, and all stakeholders affected by the unfortunate incident.
According to the statement, the decision to close the campus indefinitely was taken after careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the aim of allowing emotions to settle among students and creating room for a comprehensive assessment of healthcare facilities, medical personnel, and water supply systems within the Ifetedo Campus.
The Management explained that the measure forms part of broader efforts to address longstanding challenges associated with the campus and to ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of all students and staff.
The University reassured members of the public that it remains committed to conducting a thorough review of the situation and implementing necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.
“May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students, and the entire University community the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
The University urged all students, parents, and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative as efforts are intensified to resolve the issues and restore normalcy.
