Man Arraigned Over Alleged ₦1.9m Glass Contract Fraud In Osun

A 22-year-old man, Sulaiman Akindere, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly obtaining ₦1.9 million from a trader under the pretence of installing 10mm glass fittings in the complainant’s shop, a job he allegedly failed to execute after collecting the money.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence.

The police prosecutor, ASP Solola Oluwatosin, told the court that the alleged offence was committed sometime in April 2025 in Osogbo.

According to the prosecutor, Akindere allegedly collected the sum of ₦1.9 million from one Ogundare Oluwasegun, claiming he would supply and install 10mm glass fittings at the complainant’s shop, but failed to carry out the work as agreed.

Oluwatosin informed the court that the alleged offence is contrary to Section 419 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Najite Okobe, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, stating that the defendant could not complete the job after the glass he procured broke, adding that his client had promised to refund the complainant.

In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, O.A. Daramola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦1 million, with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till February 24, 2026, for further hearing.
