Osun 2026: Adeleke To Announce New Party Before Dec 13
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke will announce his new political party before December 13 after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, during a radio programme in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Adeleke had earlier confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North, on 4 November 2025.
Alimi said the prolonged crisis within the PDP made the governor’s exit inevitable.
He said, “The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor has written his resignation letter for quite a long time.
“It was long overdue. We appreciate the people for their support, and we can only urge them to continue supporting the governor,” he added, citing a Yoruba adage that describes the people as the governor’s protectors.
On the reasons behind the resignation, the commissioner linked it to the PDP’s national crisis, especially with the governorship election approaching and INEC’s nomination window closing on December 15.
He said, “Everybody understands that had it not been the crisis at the national level, which plays a crucial role in nominations, the governor wouldn’t have defected. Our election is in August, and the nomination window is closing soon.”
Alimi dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress welcomed the news, saying the opposition had hoped Adeleke would remain in the PDP so they could exploit the party’s crisis against him.
He said, “The APC in Osun thought Adeleke would be gullible enough to contest under the PDP so they could use the national crisis to challenge him, but Adeleke is smarter. They’re not happy because he stays ahead of them.”
On the governor’s next political move, Alimi said consultations are ongoing and the public will know before December 13.
“He has resigned now, but on or before December 12 or 13, everybody will know because the deadline for nomination and primaries is December 15,” he added.
Alimi concluded that Adeleke would not have left the PDP if the national leadership had not become factionalised.
