Outrage As FRSC Officer, Driver Engage In Physical Fight

A viral video showing a physical altercation between an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and a driver in Edo State has sparked outrage on social media, prompting the agency to launch an immediate investigation into the incident.

The video, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, captures a heated confrontation between the officer and the driver during what appeared to be a traffic stop along Abudu in Edo State.

The scene quickly escalated, with both parties seen engaging in a physical struggle, drawing reactions from passersby and online users who condemned the conduct as unprofessional and unacceptable.

Reacting to the incident, the FRSC, in a statement signed by its Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, described the video as “disturbing” and assured Nigerians that the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, had ordered a full investigation to uncover the facts behind the confrontation.

“The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation between some FRSC officers and a driver along Abudu, Edo State, Nigeria, on Saturday, 25th October, 2025,” the statement read.

Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal as expressing deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that the FRSC does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct or behavior that undermines its integrity and discipline.

He further assured that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against any officer found guilty in line with the Corps’ operational guidelines and public service rules.

The FRSC also appealed to motorists across the country to remain calm and continue to cooperate with its personnel while carrying out their duties.

“While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety, maintain order, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, the Corps Marshal will not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel during the discharge of their lawful duties,” the statement added.
