APC National Secretary Basiru Warns Against Attacks On President Tinubu

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has criticized some members of the party in Osun State over what he described as “unwarranted and disrespectful” attacks on President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during the Sallah celebration at his Osogbo residence, Basiru condemned recent media engagements and an open letter that he claimed were targeted at the President. He stated, “Anybody, particularly a sitting governor, regardless of his political party, can visit the President at will. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a pity that some people in our party have chosen to hurl derogatory words at the President simply because a governor paid him a visit.”

His comments followed the recent visit of Governor Ademola Adeleke to President Tinubu, which reportedly drew criticism from some APC members.

The APC scribe expressed concern over what he described as arrogance and immaturity being displayed by some younger politicians in the party, warning that it was unacceptable for political “fingerlings” to castigate the President.

He condemned the open letter addressed to President Tinubu, describing it as a display of effrontery and sheer disrespect. “Who are they to write open letters to the President? These are individuals who cannot deliver even five votes in their polling units,” he said.

According to him, the APC must return to the core values of progressive politics, which are built on wisdom and strategy—not on media outbursts or public grandstanding. He added that actions such as holding press conferences and issuing public letters against the President amount to direct insults on the presidency.

Basiru also criticized unnamed gubernatorial aspirants within the party, alleging that some lack grassroots support and basic political intelligence needed to win elections.

“A person who cannot mention three towns in his local government is now contesting for governorship? We must be serious. We must present a candidate with real electoral value, not someone whose defeat is clear by 10 a.m. on election day,” he said.
