Osun LG Crisis: Police Condemn Violence, Promise To Bring Troublemakers To Book

The Osun State Police Command has strongly condemned the recent violent clashes in local government administration.

This is as the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, also ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Yemisi Opalola on Monday, the command assured residents that normalcy will soon be restored.
The Command expressed deep sympathy for those affected by the unrest, which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.
Residents were urged to remain calm while the police work to restore peace and stability.
The command also warned troublemakers to desist from any acts of violence that threaten public safety.
“The Osun State Police Command has strongly denounced the recent violent outbreaks in local government administration, which have compromised public safety and disrupted peace in some communities. The Command expresses its deepest sympathy to those affected by the criminal acts that resulted in loss of lives and property damage.
“The CP assures a thorough investigation, promising that the perpetrators will face justice. Citizens are urged to remain calm and patient as the police work diligently to restore peace. Trouble makers disrupting the state’s peace are hereby warned to cease immediately.”
The Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to prevent any further breakdown of order.
Responding to the escalating situation, IGP Egbetokun in a directive contained in a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, on Monday said the police will not tolerate any act of lawlessness and anarchy in Osun State.
“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism, or anarchy in Osun State.
“The police have reaffirmed their commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the unrest, ensuring they face the full weight of the law.
“Security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent further violence, and residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
“The IGP has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups attempting to disrupt the peace, stating that decisive action will be taken against those found culpable.
“Osun indigenes, leaders, and stakeholders are urged to shun violence and go about their legitimate businesses. The judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes,” the statement added.
The police further emphasised that democracy must be upheld through lawful means, urging all political actors to respect the rule of law.
