No fewer than 19 people were burnt to death in Plateau State.

The victims who were said to have been returning from a wedding to Kano were trapped when their vehicle was involved in an accident.

John Dasar, the Chairman of Emergency Management Committee of Pankishin Local Government Area of Plateau State disclosed this to newsmen.

According to him, the victims of the accident were returning to Kano when their vehicle was involved in an accident and their vehicle caught fire at the Kwana Macji area of Pankshin Local Government Area on 11 January.

“The accident occurred on Jan. 11. The victims, travelling from Kano, and had taken a shorter route via Gindiri to Bauchi.

“While bystanders were attempting to help them escape the vehicle, it ignited and claimed the lives of 19 individuals.”

He added that while some passengers, including the driver, managed to escape, the survivors suffered various injuries.

“They were initially taken to Pankshin General Hospital before being transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for intensive care, as arranged by Pankshin LGA Chairman Felix Gonung.

“Accompanied by Health Councillor Lengyang Tali, the Police Divisional Officer, and officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Gonung also ensured that those with minor injuries received treatment and were transported back to Kano State,” he added.
