The Point's Editor, Timothy Agbor, Bags Humanitarian Journalist Award

The Acting Editor of The Point Newspaper, Timothy Agbor, has been honoured for promoting humanitarian rights and values, prioritising human dignity and increasing media interest in issues affecting human beings, especially women and girls in Nigeria.

An Award of Excellence In Humanitarian Journalism was presented to Agbor by the Movement Against Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Osun State as part of activities marking the global annual 16 Days of Activism Against SGBV.

The Movement, comprising of non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, human rights activists, human rights lawyers, law enforcement agencies, relevant government ministries, awarded the versatile journalist during the grand finale of the 2024 16 Days of Activism in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Agbor was commended for bringing the challenges affecting the vulnerable people in the society to the public domain through his reports.

Speaking, the convener of the Movement Against SGBV in Osun, Citizen Lola Wey, congratulated Agbor, describing him as a media professional with compassion for the less privileged, survivors of SGBV and humanity at large, noting that his investigative reports have contributed in promoting dignity and respect for human rights.

The award recipient who is also the Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter, appreciated the Movement for the honour, saying the recognition would spur him to do more in discouraging sexual and violence in the society.

Some notable personalities that the Movement also honoured for their various humanitarian services included Mrs Ngozi Adeleke, Wife of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, Mrs Atinuke Odukoya, Director of Centre for Women’s Health and Information (CEWHIN) among others.
