Ogun Announces November 16 For Local Government Elections
The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has announced Saturday, November 16, 2024, as the date for the conduct of the Local Government elections in the state.
The timeline and procedures for the forthcoming election were contained in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the State capital on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Babatunde Osibodu.
The guidelines for the elections and a stakeholders meeting are scheduled for Thursday, August 8, 2024, according to the statement made available to New Telegraph.
Also, Campaigns by political parties will commence on Friday, August 9, 2024.
In its preparations, Party primaries are to be held between Monday, August 26, and Monday, September 9, 2024.
This is information is coming after a recent clarification by Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, who dismissed as fake news earlier reports on social media suggesting that the local government elections would be held on October 26, 2024.
The tenure of the current local government officials ended about a week ago thus setting the stage for the upcoming elections.
