Just In: 4 Rescued, Others Trapped As Residential Building Collapses In FCT
A wing of a two-storey residential building collapsed early Saturday morning in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
While four residents have been rescued, several are said to be trapped in the rubble.
The incident occurred at around 7 a.m near Cupid Suites on C32, Sultan Dasuki Road, in the 2/2 area of Kubwa
An eyewitness, who didn’t want to be mentioned, told journalists that four persons have been rescued so far, with two more suspected to be trapped.
The building, which was formerly a hotel and then a hospital, has been a residential apartment since the hospital owners vacated the premises.
The Rescue operations teams, including the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Nigeria Police Force, Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) personnel, are trying to rescue those still trapped.
The four rescued persons have been rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital, while a few others managed to escape on their own before the building collapsed.
One of the escapees, who also chose to remain anonymous, recounted that she woke up around 7 a.m. and heard cracking sounds as she stepped outside, prompting her to run to safety.
