Okada Ban: Police Probe VIO, Rider Clash In Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into an altercation between personnel of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and a commercial motorcyclist in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The incident occurred at about 7pm yesterday, during an enforcement operation by a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) task force against commercial motorcycle operations on major roads and routes within the FCT.
Preliminary findings by the command indicate that a VIO officer attached to the task force had an altercation with a commercial motorcyclist, which subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation.
The development comes amid renewed enforcement of restrictions on commercial motorcycle operations in parts of the FCT. In previous enforcement operations, the police have worked alongside the VIO and other security agencies to impound motorcycles found operating in prohibited zones.
Confirming the Life Camp incident in a statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Sanusi has ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Adeh added that the command will make further details available as the investigation progresses. She confirmed that normalcy has been restored to the area, urging residents to remain calm and carry on with their lawful activities without fear.
The police spokesperson also advised residents to stay security-conscious and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station, or via the command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety while the investigation continues.
