Atiku Calls For Tinubu’s Resignation Amid Rising Insecurity

—Says Nigeria Does Not Need Another Tourist-in-Chief President

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s resignation, criticizing what he perceives as a lack of decisive action amidst escalating insecurity in Nigeria.

Atiku made the reaction via his X handle in the wake of a tragic attack in the Oke-Ako area of Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, where two traditional rulers, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola, were ambushed and killed by armed assailants during a meeting.Additionally, six school pupils and their teachers were abducted in the same region.

Expressing his concerns, Atiku emphasized the need for unwavering leadership, denouncing what he labeled as Tinubu’s absenteeism during a critical period of national turmoil.

He said, Nigeria needs full-time leadership, not another “Tourist-in-Chief”.

“Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity. To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90m ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.

“If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.

The call for Tinubu’s resignation coincides with revelations from civil society groups indicating a significant rise in abductions and killings during both the Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu administrations. According to the Civil Society Joint Action Group, 17,469 Nigerians were abducted since 2019, with 90% of the cases occurring under Buhari’s tenure.

In response to the heinous attack in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji condemned the incident and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He urged the affected communities to remain calm and assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security.

As Nigeria grapples with mounting security challenges, Atiku calls for decisive leadership underscores the urgency of addressing the nation’s precarious situation.
