It’s further stated that the inauguration is Scheduled to hold on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa with the mandate to delve into the matter of the National Minimum Wage.

The letter reads: “I write to inform you that Mr. President has approved the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage. The inauguration will take place on Tuesday, 30th January 2024 at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja, at 12:00 noon prompt.

“Members are urged to be seated by 11:30 am, with a shuttle bus available at the pilot gate from 10:00 am to convey attendees to the venue.

The Nigerian labour unions have been vocal about the necessity of a revised minimum wage for workers across federal and state levels, especially given the escalating cost of living exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy.

In June 2023, labour leaders advocated for an increase from the existing N30,000 to N200,000 to better align with current economic conditions.

Recall the minimum wage was last revised in April 2019, transitioned from N18,000 to N30,000.
