Lagos CP Orders Removal Of DPO Over Alleged Extortion
The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Meiran Police Station for supervisory ineptitude.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, gave the order on Wednesday following an allegation of extortion by some policemen attached to the station.
Engineer Ibrahim Saliu had accused the policemen of extorting N200,000 from him on Saturday after detaining him and his brother, Olaiya Murtala, for not providing an identity card or the receipts for the iPhones found with his brother.
However, giving an update on the incident on Wednesday, Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on his official X, announced the removal of the DPO.
Hundeyin said: “The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate removal of the DPO of Meiran Police Station for leadership dereliction and supervisory ineptitude.
“All the officers involved in the alleged extortion have been identified and are currently at the command headquarters, where their orderly room trial has commenced.”
