I’ll Be Friendly With Media, Says Osun Speaker…Charges Journalists On Objectivity

The Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has charged online media practitioners to always uphold the principle of objectivity and fairness in their reportage.

Owoeye who said he was moved by the promptness of the new media practitioners especially in Osun enjoined them to see the state as their main constituency.

The Speaker gave the charge during an interactive session he had with members of Osun Online Media Practitioners Association in his office in Osogbo, on Friday.

Owoeye who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Shittu Olaitan said there was the need for journalists to be diligent and professional in the discharge of their duties.

The motive behind the meeting according to the Speaker, was to appreciate the service being rendered by members of the association to the community vis-a-vis to seek how the group would partner with the state.

He said he was aware of the importance of the media as the fourth Estate of the realm, urging them to ensure that stories to be dished out to the public are verified and authenticated.

He said the Assembly under his watch will not only operate an open system but also be friendly with the media.

In their reaction, members of the OOMPA led by the Secretary, Jare Tiamiyu advised the Speaker to stick to his words by ensuring that journalists are given enabling environment to operate.

The members tool turns to narrate their experiences and make recommendations to the Speaker as they vowed to be diligent, balanced and professional in their reports.
