Amotekun Reunites Missing Woman, Two Children With Family In Osun

The Osun State Amotekun Corps has reunited a woman and her two young children with their family, less than 24 hours after they were rescued while wandering along the Ogii-Gbongan Road during a night patrol.

The woman and her children, aged approximately three years and one year, were found by operatives of the Corps late on Thursday night while patrolling the area.

Following the rescue, the woman and the children were taken to the headquarters of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Osogbo, where they were provided with care and attention as efforts commenced to establish their identities and locate their family.

The woman initially found it difficult to communicate with the officers and spoke intermittently in words that were difficult to understand. She was subsequently referred to the Corps’ Gender, Family and Persons with Disabilities Unit for further assistance and investigation.

Through careful engagement and analysis of the limited information obtained from her, officers of the unit were able to establish useful clues that eventually led them to the family’s residence in the Ogberin area of Ede.

The woman’s husband, Olawale Muideen, who was reportedly out of town, was represented at the Corps’ headquarters by his younger brother, Mutiu Sodiq, and his first son, Muideen Aliyullah, who identified the woman and confirmed her relationship with the family.

Speaking during the reunion, Sodiq expressed appreciation to the officers and men of the Osun Amotekun Corps for rescuing the woman and her children and ensuring their safety.

He particularly commended the operatives for their patience and professionalism in obtaining useful information from the woman despite her difficulty in communicating, which eventually helped them trace the family to Ede.

Sodiq also praised the Corps for the humane treatment and care given to the woman and her children while they remained at its headquarters, adding that the family had been searching for her for several days after she failed to return home with the children.

The Corps Commander, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, commended members of the public and the media for their support in disseminating information about the rescued woman following the announcement of the incident on Thursday night.

Omoyele said the protection of lives and property remained one of the core mandates of the Osun Amotekun Corps, commending the operatives who rescued the woman and her children for their vigilance and prompt intervention.

He said the incident underscored the importance of protecting vulnerable persons, particularly young children and adults who may be unable to adequately protect themselves.

The Corps Commander said, “It is the mandate of the Corps to protect the lives and property of residents of the state. It is commendable that our officers on patrol rescued this woman and her children who were wandering along the road at such a late hour.”

Omoyele also urged families to promptly report cases of missing persons to law enforcement agencies, particularly when the persons involved are children, vulnerable adults or individuals experiencing difficulties that may affect their ability to communicate or find their way home.

The Field Commander of the Corps, Dr. Olusoji Benedict Akanni, described the successful identification and location of the woman’s family within 24 hours as a significant outcome of the coordinated efforts of the command.

Akanni said the officers worked with the limited information available and followed the leads until they were able to trace the family to Ede.

The Corps subsequently handed the woman and her two children over to their family after completing the necessary investigation.

The Osun Amotekun Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society, responding promptly to emergencies and working with members of the public to safeguard lives and property across the state.
